re<>direct is an initiative that takes place in Athens, brought to life during START – Create Cultural Change, a program by Robert Bosch Stiftung in cooperation with Goethe Institut Thessaloniki and the German Association of the Sociocultural Centers and with the support of the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation and the Bodossaki Foundation.

The main goals of our initiative combine two main elements that go hand to hand: the human and the environment. We are trashing our planet to produce food that no one eats, we strain our finite resources and yet a huge number of people is living in conditions of food insecurity.

This statement already introduces us to how environmental and social are working together, whether in terms of a problem or of a solution. The team wishes to turn ‘’waste’’ into a building block for the future of urban environment. We are experiencing the rising of a food crisis even as citizens of the western world, where it is supposed to be enough food for everyone. The solution is not the production of more food but the redistribution of the amount that ends up in garbage, regardless of its good quality.

Athens has on its market shelves twice as much products than it is actually required to meet the need of its citizens. The new element that re<>direct wishes to bring is that its actions are open to a wide range of target groups, from people that don’t have regular access to food to those who consciously wish to take part in the second circle of life of rescued products.
